Changes In Eating
As you have probably figured out by now, this blog has been undergoing some changes. If you haven’t noticed..that’s good. That means I did the transition well.
Also if you have read or looked into any of the recipes listed, you will notice a common thread. Food that is not necessarily low in calories is given a priority, the reason being is I like comfort food.
Comfort food to me means food that tastes like some love was put into it. Not that having your family eat healthy food means you don’t love them. You do and you care what goes into their bodies. I cared what went into my childrens bodies. My body is another matter.
I really can’t help myself…I love desserts. Doesn’t matter what they are made of as long as they are sweet, high in calories, and cholestoral is a must. I have been known to stop eating in restaurants when they wheel the dessert cart by…not a very good example for children.
I have been fortunate enough most of my adult life not to have a weight problem, or cholestoral problem. Now that I am in my late 50′s I have developed both. That hasn’t stopped me from eating my favorite foods, it has made me realize that I need the other stuff too. You cannot have a one sided diet your whole life, and expect not to have health problems at some point so the experts tell me.
So I have comprimised, and I eat more fruits and vegetables. But like a child I don’t like vegetables. There too I have learned that it is not the vegetables I don’t like, but the traditional way of cooking them to death! I no longer cook vegetables until they are soggy globs. I either stir fry them with a little oil (no butter), steam them just enough to leave them crunchy, or I eat them raw. Not the way my mother would have cooked them. I shiver everytime I think of how she cooked vegetables.
Imagine at my age learning that vegetables have flavor! What a concept! If I had only knew sooner, maybe some health problems could have been avoided; and maybe not.
But the fact of the matter is you can teach an old dog new tricks.
