Cheesecake-A Tradition

What was the world like before cheesecake? I can’t imagine!

I went on an Internet search for the origins of cheesecake (yes, I have way to much time on my hands). It seems it has been around for a very long time. As far back as 776 BC (no! Not Before Children) the ancient Greeks are thought to have served cheesecake to the first Olympians before the games. Of course the Romans could not be outdone and spread the taste throughout the Roman Empire. A couple of thousand or so years later the European immigrants brought the delicious concoction to America. And all this before the Cheesecake Factory was even thought of!

Christmas In Ireland

This past year I have been researching my Irish ancestry. I mean it is one thing for an American to say they are Irish, but another to be Irish.

During my search I started wondering about Irish traditions outside of dancing, pub night, drinking, and having a good time, which the Irish seem to be able to do with great enthusiasm.

Now that the Christmas season is upon us I started to wonder what are the traditional Irish Christmas foods?

Pumpkin Cheesecake

This is one of my favorite recipes for pumpkin from my favorite chef…Paula Deen.  My husband made it a couple of years ago for Thanksgiving and it was a huge success.  It is easy to make and can be made a day ahead of the holiday.  I hope you enjoy it as much as my family did.

Happy Holidays!

Ingredients
Crust:

* 1 3/4 cups graham cracker crumbs
* 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1 stick melted salted butter

Cookies and Cream Cheesecake

My husband has got the cooking bug again…happens every few weeks, which is why I have a hard time taking weight off.  At least that is the excuse I use regularly, I just blame it on him and not the fact that I can’t stop eating the stuff he bakes or that he is so good at baking.

This recipe is one of his better ones.  Again where he got it, I don’t know.  I only know the results are delicious!

Cousin Johnnie’s Caramel Apple Cheesecake

Those of you who have followed the blog for a while know I am a huge fan of Paula Deen. She is my cooking hero. Anyone who can cook with butter and not feel any shame has my vote for cook of the century.

This cheesecake recipe I tried last year when apples were in season and it was wonderful. Going to make it again in a couple of days so dug the recipe out and sharing it with you. Even if you are not a seasoned cook, this recipe is easy.

It’s Another Winner

When my husband said he wanted to make me some brownies I told him all right.  After all who can pass up brownies.

Little did I know he was browsing for new recipes again.  OMG!  These are to die for (not literally), but they are really, really, good.  So rich and chocolaty, and mix in the peanut butter…my two favorite things…you have to try these.
