Ice Cream, Ice Cream, We All Scream for Ice Cream

Everyone knows that one of life’s great pleasures is Ice Cream. If you didn’t know that before, you know it now. I consider myself an expert in the field of ice cream having consumed enough to fill a small lake in my lifetime.

My love affair with Ice Cream began when I was very young. Chocolate is by far my favorite. And there have been studies that show that women need chocolate. I am sure you have all heard the reports, so I won’t bore you with the details. Now there has been researched done that shows that ice cream actually makes your brains pleasure zones even happier. Can you imagine being a participant in that study? What a wonderful job! Any sane women will tell you that millions of dollars did not have to be put into research for this information. Just ask one of us, for heavens sake. We have known for years that if you combine Chocolate and Ice Cream, you will have one happy person.

As I have stated in previous articles, my husband is a dessert genius. Christmas, 2007, our daughter bought him an ice cream maker. Since then he has become a master at creating all ice cream flavors for me. My favorite of course is his Triple Chocolate, although his Butter Pecan isn’t bad, or his French Vanilla, Strawberry is pretty good. But the Triple Chocolate is the favorite flavor of the week.

This recipe was made for the Kitchenaide Ice Cream Maker-follow the directions on your ice cream maker for freezing and mixing

Triple Chocolate Ice Cream
2 cups whipping cream, divided
2 squares (1-oz) semisweet baking chocolate, cut into chunks
2 squares (1-oz) unsweetened baking chocolate, cut into chunks
2 cups half and half
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
8 egg yolks
4 teaspoons vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
4 bars (1.55 oz) milk chocolate (about 1-1/2 cups)

Put your ice cream maker in the freezer per manufacturers directions. In small saucepan, place ½ cup whipping cream, semisweet chocolate, and unsweetened chocolate. Heat over medium heat until chocolate melts, stirring frequently. Remove from heat, set aside. In medium sauce pan over medium heat, heat half-and-half until very hot, but not boiling, stirring often. Remove from heat and set aside. Store in refrigerator at least 8 hours before putting ingredients into your ice cream maker.
