Melon Quenchers

Tomorrow is July 4th..Independence Day.  A day for families, celebration, picnics, fireworks, and getting sunburned!

By now you have your picnic planned, your spot picked out at the park, or your backyard barbeque cleaned and ready.  After all that hard work you need a cool drink!  I found this variation of one I have been using for years at Better Homes and Garden magazine while waiting in the Doctors office.  The only item I never added was the yogurt, but I am willing to try it.  The pureed fruit blended with ice and sparkling water will make a refreshing summer drink. A spoonful of yogurt will add creaminess, while a skewer of fresh fruit makes a pretty garnish.

Turkey Quesadilla

I don’t know about your house but we are turkeyed out around here.   Everyone says they want enough turkey for leftovers but when it comes to the eating of those leftovers after two days they are sick of turkey.  While some of the leftovers can be frozen it is always best to use as much as possible within a reasonable period of time.

I made this recipe last Saturday for the family and no one complained that it was turkey again.  As a matter of fact no one even noticed.  They enjoyed the quesadilla that much.

Cranberries Historical Facts

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without cranberries, now would it? I know for a fact that around our house it wouln’t be Thanksgiving without it.  I have tried many recipes and variations on this fruit, but the one from Ocean Spray is definitely the best.

How much do you really know about this fruit?  Where does it grow?  How did it become part of our Thanksgiving traditions?  Here are a few facts from our friends at Ocean Spray about this deep red fruit.

Ambrosia Salad for the Holidays

My family laughs every time I mention Ambrosia Salad.  It seems every holiday party they go to it is there and for some absurd reason they think it is funny.  Go figure!

There is a reason why it is at every party you go to…it is good!  How often have you seen leftovers of Ambrosia Salad?  I bet not too often.  It is one of those food items that could be a side salad, then again it could be a dessert.  Take your pick!  Anyway I like it anytime of the year.

Cranberry-Apple Coffee Cake

Halloween is around the corner and with it comes the start of the holiday season. Time for family, friends, shopping and lots of good food.

Thanksgiving is the first big holiday after Halloween. I like to take them one at a time, if I think about them all at once then I become overwhelmed and stressed. Being stressed during the holidays isn’t fun as we all know. My husband gets stressed about it. Already he is asking what we are having for Thanksgiving dinner.

Two Different Dishes With One Ingredient

I recently bought a package of Classic Cole Slaw mix.  I rarely buy packaged mixes like this but it was convenient.  Anyway after using only a part of the package, I realized I had satisfied my craving for Cole Slaw for a while.  So what to do with the leftover coleslaw.

About a year ago my sister bought us a subscription to “Taste Of Home-Cooking for Two”.  She is determined to get me off comfort foods and for us to eat healthier.  To be frank, when the magazine comes in every month, I take look and put it aside.  It wasn’t until I started this blog, that I really began looking at the recipes inside.  There are some fantastic ideas and a lot of them fit into my definition of Comfort Food.
